Texas quail hunters are hoping to get to the point more often this season. A mild, wet spring and summer created ideal nesting conditions for quail. The game birds have been in decline in recent years.

Outdoors Notebook: Quail Population Rises in West Texas

Once the weather cools down in November, a good bird dog could prove to be a valuable commodity. In the Rolling Plains Region of West Texas, state biologists have counted a record 50.24 quail per 20-mile census line.
